God of War (PS4)God of War (PS4)

First, let me say that this is my favorite release day of my entire career. If I live to be 100, I do not think I will be able to top this release day.

There has been a long journey just to reach this point, so it’s a little bittersweet to think that we are only a few months away from that journey finally coming to an end. While I am sad, I am also excited because it means everyone will get their hands on this crazy adventure we have been crafting for nearly five years!

You can check out the trailer below!

So, April 20, 2018…mark the date on your calendar, people. Check Out The Newly Released “Retro” PS4 Pro Commercial

What’s up PlayStation Nation,

I recently wrote an opinion peace in regards to “PS4 Pro Support”. We’re heading into November soon and the PS4 Pro is set to release on November 10th. I’ve on many occasions stated my confusion on why the team over at PlayStation has been quite mum with advertising and even acknowledgement of the upcoming hardware outside of it’s initial September reveal. My guess as I’ve stated via “The Council Podcast” is that Sony has been rather slow this year with announcements such PSX 2016, PS4 Pro unveiling and even PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro bundles announcements. But none the less we are approaching the end of October and PlayStation seems to be possibly putting forth an effort to give the PS4 Pro a bit of exposure. As released via the UK PlayStation twitter recently, a trailer for the PS4 Pro has been released.  screenshot_20161028-084344.jpg

You can view the full trailer below via the Push Square YouTube Channel

What do you think of the trailer? Will it be enough to gauge the interest of others who may or may not be interested in the PS4 Pro or Call of Duty? Comment below let us know your thoughts and for more PlayStation related news make sure to check back with us here at What’s Up PlayStation.

Where is the PS4 Pro Marketing?

What’s Up PlayStation Nation,

As November 10th quickly approaches myself and fans alike are wondering where is the acknowledgement of the PlayStation 4 Pro? Sony has been busy this year with the constant drop of games, which isn’t a bad thing by any mean. But as we are at almost a few weeks away from the PS4 Pro release, we’ve only received information of game delay announcements and hardware announcements (PS4 Slim & PSVR release dates, etc.). Aside from major 3rd party releases of games available for the standard PS4, there has been little to no marketing in regards to the PS4 Pro. There has been no announcement of bundles which is a contrast difference to the PSVR bundle that’s available right now. Even in recent events of Tokyo Game Show PlayStation has been vocal and even acknowledges the PS4 Slim. To add more questions on their direction towards it’s target audience, they’ve even revealed a PS4 Slim bundle for Final Fantasy XV  more so in comparison to the PS4 Pro.

Even fresh off the September reveal of the PS4 Pro. I recently visited Japan two weeks after the announcement of the PS4 Pro. There there was no signs or focus even a little bit for the PS4 Pro during the initial Tokyo Game Show keynote. While sightseeing on my vacation in Japan, I made sure to visit The Akihabara district. From what I and many were lead to understand this particular region of Tokyo to be the mecca of Video Game Enthusiast. So while scouring the streets of Electric, not seeing much marketing or a single mention of the PS4 Pro left me a bit confused. Especially with seeing the focus for the Final Fantasy XV PS4 bundle being recently revealed and seeing more focus for the current standing PS4’s and upcoming bundle.

Fast forward to the present. A week after the release of PSVR. I figured we’d surely hear something by now in regards to a Call of Duty PS4 Pro Bundle or something of the sorts considering that PlayStation itself has marketing rights with COD, Battlefront as well the recently announced Red Dead Redemption 2. One would think that Sony has something up it’s sleeve for bringing awareness to the mid gen console that’s only a few weeks away from release. Sadly nothing has been announced and PS4 Pro continues to receive small spurts of information in regards to which games will support it and how those games will be supported.

Some PlayStation fans feel that the PS4 Pro is unnecessary and since it’s reveal maybe Sony are reworking it’s messaging plan on how to get the console back in good terms with it’s gaming audience. Either way with the holiday approaching and the disappointment of recent game delays it would be nice to see Sony back from it’s stumbled approach into the fall season with a refined focus for PS4 Pro messaging as well bundle for PS4 Slim and Pro SKU’s. What do you think PlayStation Nation? Do you want to see more focus on the PS4 Pro? Are you interested in the PS4 Pro and plan to purchase it in the future or so? Comment below let us know.

PS4 Slim Uncharted Bundle Rumored to be $249 on Black Friday

What’s Up PlayStation Nation!

This Black Friday will be interesting, with the month of October halfway though it’s completion. It’s almost head scratching that Sony hasn’t released any word of any particular bundles for this holiday let alone not marketing the PS4 Pro very much. With that being said a small bit of information has been recently rumored. Sources allege that eBay, among other stores, will be offering the PS4 for $249.99 this Black Friday. Even better, the bundle will include a copy of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

With this in mind, it is likely that the Xbox One will match this offer with a $249.99 bundle of its own, especially given that you can buy one from Amazon for $256 right now. The primary Black Friday bundle will possible include Gears of War 4 or Madden NFL 17.

These drastic price reductions are the product of not only manufacturing optimization, but the introduction of slim SKUs. The PS4 Slim and Xbox One S have reduced component pricing that has provided both Microsoft and Sony a big opportunity this holiday season. Interestingly enough, both consoles are priced similarly to the nearly four year old Wii U.

What do you think PlayStation Nation? Are you looking forward to any Black Friday bundles for holidays gifts, Do you think more needs to be done for potential buyers to bring the PlayStation 4 into their homes? Comment below and let us know. For more news make sure to check back here at WhatsUpPlayStation.

What Is Sony’s Game Plan For Console Dominance?

What’s Up PlayStation Nation,

With the recent news swirling around Social Media (Neogaf, Twitter, Facebook, Etc). The response to the (possible) PlayStation 4 Slim model being released, the response (at least from what I’ve experienced) has been mixed. Many are looking at the PS4 Slim with curiosity of what does it’s purpose serve. How much will it cost? Will it support 4K? Is there a need to switch over to the PS4 Slim, in oppose to keeping the regular PS4 that’s available now? Although it has been PlayStation’s worse kept secret 2nd to the PlayStation 4 Neo. Many are clueless to the intention of the PS4’s role to maintain dominance.

Some are concerned with Sony being cocky again as many claimed, they were when the PlayStation 3 was originally revealed. Do you think they will really go back to having such a level of hubris, after being in prior financial limbo over the past few years. With the decline of some premiere Sony branded products losing their flare they once held back in the 80’s to early 2000’s? Cringe worthy statements such as: “I will work more hours to buy one(PS3 consoles).

Either way there is a mixed bag of perspectives on how the PlayStation brand will continue forth. In the eyes of public perception there seems to be an audience of those who feel that Sony is going back to it’s old ways of the Past. While there is also an audience of fans who are still confident in the direction that the PlayStation brand is heading. The question that relates to all are; What direction the PlayStation brand plans to go in? In comparison to the competition the Xbox One to where Microsoft made it clear during E3 2016 that the direction the Xbox brand would be heading in. With the offering of buy a slightly more powerful Xbox One S that does 4k streaming and 4K Blu-Rays that justifies the desire to purchase an Xbox One S No matter how minimal the features and boost on that console. However with the PS4 Slim being leaked and no sense of recognition from Sony in regard to whether the console is real or not. It’s left many to wonder until the September 7th Event.

To add on to more speculation on the direction of PlayStation. As reported via the PlayStation Blog recently there was news of a PlayStation Plus 10 dollar price hike. Which is stated as followed:

Starting on September 22, 2016, prices for PlayStation Plus memberships will change to $59.99 USD/ $69.99 CAD for twelve months and $24.99 USD/$29.99 CAD for three months. The monthly plan will change to $11.99 CAD in Canada, and remain $9.99 USD in the U.S. If you are a current member, the new prices will take effect if your membership renews on or after this date.

PlayStation Plus strives to enrich your PlayStation experience through a world-class service built for our fans. This marks the first time that PS Plus membership prices will increase in the U.S. and Canada since the launch of the service in 2010. The new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members. As a member, you will continue to enjoy the benefits and features that enable shared experiences, such as online multiplayer, free games, and exclusive discounts. You will also continue to get exclusive benefits such as online game save storage and discounts across the PlayStation digital services.

If you do not wish to continue your subscription, please be sure to cancel it by turning off auto-renewal in your account settings before September 22, 2016.

We thank all of you, our PlayStation Plus members, for your ongoing support.

My Take on the matter: Personally I’m in neutral standing in regard to the PS4 Slim. Although not visually breathtaking. I do feel if it has some benefits to warrant the purchase of a slim console(4K streaming and Blu-Ray) then that would sweeten up the desire to purchase a slim console. However there are rumors of this soon to be standard PS4 price being lowered to a possible price point of $299.99-$249.99. But as always we’ll have to wait unless this info ends up being leaked. But there needs to be some incentive if they plan on phasing out the current build of the PS4. But with the inclusion of also a PS4 Neo there appears to be also speculation of there being the PS4 for the “standard” user-base and the Neo for the more “high-end” tech driven user-base. Which we will see soon I hope. And Lastly the PlayStation Plus price also needs to be explained how users should be justified in supporting the price hike. Will there be benefits for better PlayStation Plus titles, will we receive more updates besides the usual two big updates we get a year? All these things we have to wait on to “possibly” be answered via the September 7th event.

Do you think there are still things that maybe we will see that hasn’t been leaked yet?  What are your thoughts, what do you want to see in the PS4 Slim? Do you think that the PlayStation brand is setting itself up for a popularity plunge with the mixed reception of the PS4 Slim and the PS Plus 10$ price hike? Comment below let us know. 5 Predictions for the PlayStation Meeting

What’s Up PlayStation Nation,

With the PlayStation Meeting announced and only a few weeks away. It left me thinking about what’s going to be said or revealed at this event. So many rumors, leaks, and questions are leading up to this PlayStation Meeting, however I want to give the PlayStation Nation 5 predictions on the possibilities that might occur during this event.

Without any further ado, here is my 5 predictions that will take place during the PlayStation Meeting.

1. PlayStation Slim/PlayStation Neo revealed

  • With the PlayStation 4 (PS4) Slim being leaked recently, I can guarantee it will be shown at the PlayStation meeting. Sony will probably announce two different SKU’s. A 500 GB version and a 1 TB version. I do believe the PS4 Slim will replace the original PS4 as the entry level current PlayStation console.
  • However, what about the PS Neo?  Which is the creme de la creme of the event. The PS Neo announcement will have a price and/or a released date. Sony has to be very clear on the messaging of this console, trying their best not to confuse gamers on the principles of this device are.

2. The introduction of the new DualShock 4 controllers

  • There has been some leaked pics of a new DualShock 4 packaged with the PS4 Slim. Now there is a piece of the light bar on top of the touchpad, which I think is smart because with the light bar there to give players indication on which controller they are using or immersion in games to let you know how your health is situated. Actually seeing that light bar in front of you will further add to that.
  • I also feel there will be a new Elite DualShock 4 of some sort, for the more pro-gamer. There have been patent leaks on this controller already circling around the internet, and Sony is yet to unveil it. Will we see it at the PlayStation Meeting? I surely think so.

ps plus

3. A proper explanation of a PS Plus price hike/Sales

  • In recent news Sony increased the PS Plus subscription, but never gave a proper reason on why they did it. I feel they should outright say why there was a 10-dollar increase, and give PlayStation fans better incentives on why they should pay the extra money.
  • I think we will see an update on how the PS4 is doing when it comes to sales, how many units they have sold to consumers and what are the current PS Plus activities are looking like.

4. Game(s) Announcement and VR

  • Rumors state that RockStar will be at this PlayStation Meeting, and will show the heavily anticipated next iteration to Red Dead franchise. A lot of people would call this rumor/prediction a bit far-fetched, but I hope it really comes true.
  • One game wouldn’t be enough to be shown at a PlayStation conference, right guys? We will see an exclusive PS4 game from a first party studio.
  • There will also be game demos been shown for the PS Neo. So I expect to see Horizon: Zero Dawn, Days Gone, or God of War shown running on Neo.
  • Talks on PSVR benefits on PS Neo. Short but sweet demo of Dreams
  • Surprise surprise a Shenmue gameplay reveal.

5. PlayStation Experience Announcement

  • If we were to go by last year’s announcement, which took place on August 14th. Sony is about a week late on announcing the PlayStation Experience for 2016. I wonder what is the reason for this delay? Hopefully we will find out during the PlayStation Meeting.

So there you have it my 5 predictions on what I think will be said or announced at the PlayStation Meeting. What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments below.
