Kazou Hirai announced to step down as Sony President and CEO

What’s Up PlayStation Nation,

Today provides some bittersweet news In a surprising turn of events it has been reported via press release of PlayStation’s recent finacial report  that the PlayStation 4 sales has reached 76.5 million sales, alongside that Kaz Harai has announced he will be stepping down as CEO of Sony Corporation. Sony has announced that Kenichiro Yoshida will assume Kaz’s soon to be former role and will be taking over as of April 1st, 2018. Even though Kaz will be stepping down as CEO, Mr. Hirai will remain in the company, retaining the Director and Chairman roles once April hits.

As it has been detailed in an official press statement Kaz Harai and Kenichiro provided statements to the recent news which is detailed below:

Kazou Harai States:

“Ever since my appointment as President and CEO in April 2012, I have stated that my mission is to ensure Sony continues to be a company that provides customers with kando – to move them emotionally – and inspires and fulfills their curiosity. To this end, I have dedicated myself to transforming the company and enhancing its profitability, and am very proud that now, in the third and final year of our current mid-range corporate plan, we are expecting to exceed our financial targets. And it excites me to hear more and more people enthuse that Sony is back again. As the company approaches a crucial juncture, when we will embark on a new mid-range plan, I consider this to be the ideal time to pass the baton of leadership to new management, for the future of Sony and also for myself to embark on a new chapter in my life. My successor, Kenichiro Yoshida, has supported me closely since returning to Sony in December 2013 , contributing extensively beyond his remit as CFO and acting as valuable confidant and business partner, as we took on the challenge of transforming Sony together. Mr. Yoshida combines a deeply strategic mindset with a relentless determination to achieve defined targets, and the ability to take a global viewpoint. I believe he possesses the breadth of experience and perspective, as well as the unwavering leadership qualities required to manage Sony’s diverse array of businesses, and as such is the ideal person to drive the company forward into the future. As Chairman, I will of course offer my full support to Mr. Yoshida and the new management team, and do all I can to facilitate a smooth transition and ensure their future success.”

Kenichiro Yoshida States:

“I am very grateful to Kazuo Hirai and the Sony Board for their trust and confidence in appointing me as Sony President and CEO, and at the same time feel a great sense of responsibility in taking on this vitally important role. Together with the outstanding talent we have across the Sony Group, I will aim to build on the business foundations established by Mr. Hirai, and execute further reform measures that enhance our competitiveness as a global enterprise, and enable us to realize long-term profit growth. My first priority will be to finalize our next mid-range corporate plan starting in April, together with our immediate business plan for the fiscal year 2018, and then move ahead swiftly with implementation. This is a hugely exciting time at Sony as we look to our future, and together with my management team I intend to determine the best path for us to move forward, and devote my full effort to creating a better Sony that captures the imagination of our many stakeholders around the world.”

(Editors Opinion: This is definitely unexpected news as it has caught me off guard in terms of expected news. However it does make sense as such a high level position can be tiring considering that he has to travel on the constant and stay away from family. Not only that he has maintain and manage many branches of the Sony Corp. Which he has done a great job at. However it does leave many fans of the brand a bit worried and questioning will the transitioning team be able to maintain the same level of quality that many of us PlayStation fans have come to love. Not only that it leaves the question of will we experience a shift in gaming output. One can only hope that things will continue to prosper and grow. Kazou Harai is one of many parts that are responsible for turning around the perception of the PlayStation brand. But we will see how this is will manifest going into the PS5 and so forth. Does it worry fans who closely follow the PlayStation Brand? I believe it does. But we will see how things will evolve over time. We look forward to see how the PlayStation name will evolve going forward.)

What’s Up PlayStation Nation,

Bandai Namco has recently release a new trailer displaying some story and gameplay elements for the upcoming PS4 “exclusive” title. The trailer focuses on some multiplayer mode elements as well as the adventure mode that the game seems to be center around.

The adventure mode from what we see so far send the player on quest to uncover the games story. The multiplayer mode allows players to use their favorite characters from the series and participate in online and offline battles. The upcoming season of characters from the series are to be included in the game as well. You can check out the trailer below:

(Editors Opinion: This game looks amazing and I’m loving the visual effects presentation of this. It comes off as a mix of a fighter mixed with JRPG elements. If you have played the early PS4 exclusive J_Stars this seems to be a bit similar to that. I look forward to getting my hands on this game to possibly platinum if it doesn’t to be too difficult. I really the group elements of the game for modes like 2V2 and so forth. This is definitely be on my watch list in 2018.)

The Seven Deadly Sins: Knights of Britannia releases on PS4 January 25th in Japan and February 9th in North America and Europe. But what do you think of the trailer are you interested in the game? Have you watched the series that currently plays on Netflix? Who are you favorite characters from the series. Comment below let us know. PlayStation announces changes ahead for PSX 2017?

What’s Up PlayStation Nation,

Well it’s only a few weeks away from greatness that is known as PSX. As you know many of us here at the What’s Up PlayStation team are going to be in attendance of PSX. And this year there will be more of us than usual alongside new members of the WUPS team being announced soon. With that being said on the announcement side of things. It has been announced via the PS Blog that things will be a bit different for PSX this year. Mainly for those fans who may not be in attendance of the event who usually look forward to a keynote event sadly it seems there will not be a keynote this year.

This year will be the first of the past PSX events to not have a key note presser for the event.  It has been reported that Early Bird ticket holders for PlayStation Experience will be granted access to an exclusive presentation at the Anaheim Convention Center the evening of Friday, December 8 starting at 8:00pm Pacific Time. There is said to be a few surprises and more however as far as the traditional keynote we all expect when it comes to PSX, it seems that will be absent this year in some capacity. However there will still continue to be the traditional panels to be streamed via the usual channels of Twitch and YouTube.

Edit: It seems that we have been updated via Sid Shuman which he has stated via the PS Blog. The keynote event will take place on Friday evening instead of Saturday. And this special event is only available to early bird ticket holders.

Key Note

This news may or may not be a bit disappointing. However it should be said that there will still be announcements via panels and exclusive hands on access to games at the event for those in attendance. However this is a definite change that will grasp the attention of many who have come to expect to see this event even when they are not in attendance.

With that being said the PSX show floor will also be open longer than usual.

Show Hours

10:00am to 10:00pm

10:00am to 10:00pm

And tickets are still available for purchase.Which you can purchase via the link below.

PlayStation Experience 2017 | Buy Tickets

The list of developers in attendance is still being sorted but so far we do know that we’ll get an update on titles such as dreams which they’ve released a teaser trailer which you’ll be able to view below. Other devs said to be in attendance so far are Sucker Punch Productions, Media Molecule, with more to be announced in the coming days. It’s said that the show floor has been expanded by 50% which is amazing considering the size of the show floor if you were in attendance last year.

With that being said more details in regards to more info on developer panels, autograph signings, merchandise updates, Capcom Cup and other activities. With that being said you can expect to see and hear more via the WUPS team this December at PSX 2017. Let us know what do you think of this change to this years PSX? Horizon Zero Dawn: Frozen Wilds New Banuk Trailer & New Trophy Details

What’s Up PlayStation Nation,

Guerrilla Games has shared a bit of details in regards to the making of the minimal prominent group in the game known as The Banuk Tribe. As per the PS Blog GG divulged some details for the “behind the scenes trailer” and more. Make sure to read the info below:

Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds was an opportunity to go back and delve into the culture of one of Horizon Zero Dawn’s most mysterious tribes. Although the Banuk didn’t feature prominently in the base game, the tribe’s rugged individuality, nomadic existence and harmonious relationship with natural and machine life set it apart them from all of the other tribes.

Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen WildsHorizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds

The developers went to great lengths to create tribes that would feel believable and at home in the environments they inhabited, and the Banuk tribe was no exception. In the video interview above, Studio Art Director Jan-Bart van Beek, Narrative Director John Gonzalez, Lead Concept Artist Roland IJzermans and Lead Writer Ben McCaw talk about the development of the Banuk tribe, and the ways in which Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds builds on the foundations laid in Horizon Zero Dawn.

You’ll be able to explore the Cut and discover the unique culture of the Banuk tribe for yourself when Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds launches on November 7th.

The Trophies are broken down into 2 sections one of them being known as Feats Trophies,

HZD Feats

and the next being known as Quest Trophies, HZD Quest

It’s rumored that the game adds as much as 15 hours of gameplay. Which is considerably generous for 14.99 DLC.

(Editors Opinion: I wasn’t originally interested in coming back to the game of Horizon Zero Dawn. Especially with me being the self admitted Platinum trophy whore of the WUPS crew. I felt that since I acquired my well deserved platinum. That I wouldn’t have a need to return to the game. But being invested in the base game and having since seeing this trailer. I will 100% return to the game as I look forward to delving more into Horizon Zero Dawn’s evolving lore. And the added incentive of new trophies makes the deal sweeter however having since achieving the platinum. I’m not as worried to complete 100% of the trophies but it does provide a nice incentive to close the game of the my current completion percentage of the game.)
