Sharefactory 3.00 Update

(Editors Opinion: I’m always looking forward to the news updates on one of PS4’s most innovative applications for those that like to create and share content via the PS4. I honestly only hope that this trend continues on the next PS4 console and that they use this application as a base for the PS5 or whatever forthcoming console/ hardware they have in store. I really wish that this was available as an option for the PS Vita [Remember that hand held anyone?]. However I can settle for the PS4 as of now. But still my point remains that I hope the good folks at PlayStation continue to build on this application as a standard moving forward for PlayStation related hardware.)

What do you think? Are you an frequent user of the SHAREfactory application for PS4 related content? Are you satisfied with the update. New updates available for the PlayStation mobile app!!

What’s Up PlayStation Nation,

Recently via the PS Blog is has been revealed that iOS and Android users will be receiving an update for the PlayStation App on mobile devices and Tablets. This update changes the look of the PS and more. Here’s a run down via the PS Blog:

PlayStation App lets you stay connected to your PlayStation 4 experience wherever you go, and today it is being updated with a completely new design, providing you with a more intuitive and smoother experience to stay connected to your friends and the games you love to play.

A change you’ll notice when you boot up the PS App, are the new tabs at the bottom of the screen for popular features such as What’s New, Friends, and your Profile. It’s now easier and faster to switch between viewing who’s online, what they are playing, and keeping up with the latest activities and posts from your friends and the PlayStation community.

PlayStation AppPlayStation AppPlayStation App

You can now also easily access PlayStation Store, voucher code redemption, and other popular apps and features, including Events, Trophies, PlayStation Plus, and a list of new and upcoming PlayStation 4 games by using the new blue PlayStation button at the bottom.

After the update, the Live from PlayStation feature will no longer be accessible on PS App but you will still be able to spectate the countless game broadcasts from the dashboard of your PS4. Also, the PS4 Second Screen functionality is now a separate standalone app, allowing you to easily switch between its features and the PS App. Just as a reminder, Second Screen can be used as a keyboard to enter text on your PS4 from your mobile device, and also works with games that have a Second Screen feature.

(Editors Opinion: I am not very fond of the removal of the Live from PlayStation Feature. I don’t understand why there’s a removal of it as I feel it was a great feature to have on the go. I hope that PlayStation provides us a reason as to why they are removing apps and making them separate because of as of now it’s becoming more of a hassle than a convenience issue. I do expect for more news to come about replacements or alternatives to these features to be revealed in the future. Along side with this info. I hope to that this news will lead into more of a PS UI revamping. One can only hope though. One thing I personally criticized PS consoles for in the past, is the lazy UI overhauling. There’s always been improvements but I would like to see a new UI for the system overall. Lets hope that this change of the PS App follows up to the PS4 UI making significant changes as well.)

But what do you think of the PS App changes does it bother you at all, or it doesn’t matter to you. Comment below let us know. For news like this and more make to keep us bookmarked and check back with us here at What’s Up PlayStation!

PS4 Firmware Update 5.00 Nobunaga Now Available for PS4 and PS Apps

What’s up PlayStation Nation,

As you know we’ve previously given details for the 5.00 beta for standard PS4 and PS4 Pro. To where these features were speculated but today we have official confirmation as Sony has announced via the PS Blog the available features in this 5.00 firmware update. Here are the details as followed:

Family on PSN

We’re overhauling the current master/sub-account system, and introducing the new “Family on PlayStation Network.” This new system will offer a more flexible experience for families on PS4 by making it easier to setup PSN accounts for children and customize parental control settings. Below are the new features that will be introduced with family on PSN:

Family Manager, Parent/Guardian

Family on PSN will allow multiple adults to be part of a single family. The Family Manager can promote another adult inside the family to a Parent/Guardian, who can then customize parental control levels of children’s accounts.

PS4 System Software Update 5.00

Individualized Parental Controls

Before this update, the same parental controls were applied to all users on the same console, including adults. But with 5.00, all controls (including game age ratings) can be individually attuned for each child.

Friend List Management

In place of the current ‘Favorite Groups’ tab, we’re adding a new ‘Custom Lists’ tab within Friends, which allows you to create and edit custom lists of your friends. This makes it easier for you to manage your friends and access specific groups. For example, you can create a custom list of your Destiny teammates and easily send them raid invites.

PS4 System Software Update 5.00

Broadcast feature updates

Communities

If you own a community, you can now bind your community to your broadcast. When a broadcast is linked to a community, the community button appears on the Live from PlayStation spectator screen. Once a spectator clicks on the community button, they’ll be able to jump directly to your community page to check out the details.

PlayStation VR

We’ve added a new setting in PlayStation VR: Display Message to Spectators and Spectators’ Comments. Once this is enabled, spectator comments sent during a broadcast is displayed not only in cinematic mode, but also in VR mode. This makes it much easier for VR broadcasters to keep up on comments and communicate with their viewers.

PlayStation 4 Pro

Good news Twitch users: with this update, PS4 Pro will support 1080p 60fps streaming on Twitch.

Messages Improvements

You’ve already been able to share your favorite music to Twitter and Facebook via PlayStation Music, but now you’ll also be able to share via messages using your PS4. If your friends are on PS4, they can listen to the track right inside the message by booting up Quick Menu, and if they’re on their mobile device, they can jump directly to the Spotify app from the PS Messages app to check out the song.

In addition, if you’re part of multiple message groups, you can now easily leave several groups at once. Just open up Options in the message list, select Leave, and choose the message groups you want to leave.

PS4 System Software Update 5.00

Notifications Updates

We’ve added a new setting that allows you to disable pop-up notifications while you’re watching a movie or TV show on your PS4. This setting is off by default, so go to Settings > Notifications to disable notifications and go uninterrupted during your videos.

PS4 System Software Update 5.00

Furthermore, you now have the option to turn off message previews on your pop-up notifications. If you turn this setting off, the pop-up notification will hide the message senders’ online ID and will display a generic user icon and message instead.

PS4 System Software Update 5.00

Lastly, you’ll have the option to change the color of your pop-up notifications to either white (default) or black.

PS4 System Software Update 5.00

Quick Menu Updates

If you want to keep an eye out on what’s happening under Notifications, like the progress of your game downloads/installations or new party invites, you can now access this directly from the Quick Menu so you don’t have to step away from your game every time you want to check your notifications.

PS4 System Software Update 5.00

Also, we’ve added a ‘Leave Party’ option in the Quick Menu, so you can easily exit a party and go right back to playing your game.

PS4 System Software Update 5.00

In addition, now you’ll see the system clock in the upper-right corner of the screen when you pop open the Quick Menu.

Virtual Surround Sound on PS VR

PlayStation VR now supports 5.1ch and 7.1ch virtual surround sound on your headphones when watching Blu-rays and DVDs in Cinematic Mode, making for an even more immersive viewing experience

Improved Tournaments Bracket Viewer

We have a new bracket viewer that shows full tournament brackets for Single Elimination and Double Elimination tournaments on PS4. This makes it easier for you to see the current tournament standings.

PS4 System Software Update 5.00

New System Language Additions

With this update, we’re adding the following system language options on PS4: Czech, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Romanian, Thai and Vietnamese.

Team Tournaments

Prepare to recruit the best players you know, because Team Tournaments on PS4 are almost here. With this new functionality, you’ll be able to compete against other teams for prizes and status.

Team Tournament functionality will kick off on October 5, shortly after the release of the 5.00 update. The initial batch of titles supporting Team Tournaments will be Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, World of Tanks and Mantis Burn Racing, with more on the way. Head over to the Events section on your PS4 to check out details for different Events and Tournaments, and to start creating your team.

You can join or own up to a maximum of 60 different teams, and each team will have an owner and captain(s) who can manage the team. Only teams will be able to register for official Team Tournaments. Your team will have its own customizable team page where you can see team member information, and view upcoming and ongoing events that your team is currently registered for and competing in. In addition, you can easily check out your team’s results in past tournaments with a new bracket viewer that shows full tournament standings for Single and Double Elimination tournaments directly on PS4. Communicating and coordinating with your teammates is also simple via the integrated team chat feature.

Follow Anyone

PS4 5.00 - Who To Follow

Before 5.00, you were only able to follow Verified Accounts, but now you can follow any user without having to be friends with them (subject to privacy settings). This allows you to follow content creators, game broadcasters, and other gamers in a community without having to dip into your friends list. And at the same time, this will allow these users to expand their reach and build more interest in what they’re doing. Your What’s New feed will be updated with the activities of the users you’re following, so you can easily keep up on what they’re up to. And under Friends, you’ll see a new Who to Follow section that will give you customized recommendations of who you can follow. The recommendations will be displayed in separate categories, such as Featured Verified Accounts, trending users, and suggestions based on games you’ve recently played.

Messages Update

PS4 5.00 - URL Preview

We have one more feature to add to the list of updates coming to Messages on PS4. If you send a message that contains a link to a website, messages will now display a preview of the website, like headlines and thumbnails.

App Updates

Outside of PS4, some of our apps are getting updates today too:

PlayStation Communities

Following this update, you can switch the app into landscape mode when you flip your phone sideways, so you get a wider view of the app and it makes it easier to scroll through. In addition, you’re now able to view and post animated GIFs on community walls. We’re also adding the following languages to the app: Czech, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Romanian, Thai and Vietnamese.

PlayStation Messages

Horizon Zero DawnUncharted The Lost Legacy

Stickers for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Horizon Zero Dawn are being added. And similar to the PS4’s Messages update, the PlayStation Messages app will also be updated to display previews of a website if you’ve received a link. Support for Czech, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Romanian, Thai and Vietnamese are being added to the app.

Editors Opinion: Although these additions are nice. I would’ve liked to have seen more utilized for name changes, party chat expansions such as larger party count (At least 10-12 player count additions) and something more useful for the PS camera. As well as video messaging of per say 30 seconds to 1 minute clips to friends. Sadly with this update outside of a few welcoming features, I do not feel this warrants a full  5.00 update as previous updates were a bit more anticipated.

With firmware update 5.00 being fully revealed and available for download what do you think? are you satisfied with the results of this update to the PS4 and PS Apps? Comment below let us know and for more news make sure to check back with us here at Whats Up PlayStation.

Media Player on PS4 Pro Now Supports 4K Video

What’s Up PlayStation Nation,

Media Player for the PS4 is a feature that many may or may not beware of as far as it’s capabilities but for many like myself it is an well invited convenience. Well today that convenience gets even better. As reported via the PlayStation blog. The PS4 Media Player will be updated to support 4K video and more here’s the details below:

The Media Player app is getting an update to support 4K video playback on PS4 Pro. Following this update, 4K videos in mp4 format saved on a USB stick or home server can be played on the Media Player app (remember, you’ll also need a 4K compatible TV to watch the videos in 4K).

Your home server will appear as a media option in the Player automatically, so finding your media is simple and quick. Just a reminder: USB storage that’s already been formatted as extended storage for your PS4 can only be used to save games and apps — it can’t be used to save and play videos.

For those of you that own PlayStation VR in addition to PS4 Pro, Media Player will also update to support playback of 4K VR video content. PS VR’s display resolution is 1920 X RGB X 1080, so 4K VR videos will be displayed in a higher image quality compared to HD VR videos. Capture stunning 360 degree 4K footage, and then immerse yourself in that footage in VR at home — just as if you’re right back in the scene you shot.

The PS4 Pro already supports streaming 4K video via Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu all have 4K content available. With that being said do you intend to use these features? What more would you like to be supported in regards to 4K content on the PS4 Pro? Comment below and let us know. For this and all things related PlayStation make sure to check back with us here at What’s Up PlayStation.

What’s Up PlayStation Nation PlayStation has now launched a PlayStation Communities app on iOS and Android, making it easy to stay in touch with your fellow PS4 gamers while away from the console.

wp-1480518576359.jpg

PlayStation Communities are places where you can find players who have similar interests and preferences. Within a Community, you can join parties and launch into games with other Community members, or talk about your shared interests. For instance, if you’re having trouble finding players to tackle Destiny’s newest raid, Wrath of the Machine, a Destiny community may help you fill out your fire-team.

In the app, you will be able to check out community profiles, view a list of communities you’re a member of, and see who else is in your community.

You can also discover and join new communities directly from the app, which provides recommendations based on the games you’ve played and highlights which communities are trending. This new app has a streamlined design which makes it easy to post text and images on the community wall. You can also choose to receive push notifications to stay-up-to-date on posts and replies.

Check out the app and let us know what you think? Do you think this makes your community interaction easier? Comment below and let us know! For more news of all things PlayStation make sure to check back with us here at What’s Up PlayStation.
