Top 5 Upcoming JRPG’s in 2017 for the PS4

What’s Up PlayStation Nation,

On the PlayStation 4, we’ve already been given the opportunity to play wonderful 2017 JRPG titles, such as Kingdom Hearts 2.8 to Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD Remix, Tales of Berseria, and the two massive hits NieR: Automata and Persona 5.

Today I want to inform the PlayStation Nation about 5 upcoming JRPG’s which I personally recommend, for PlayStation fans that favor this genre and should be looking out for. Now I know there are a few games that could also list such as Valkyria Revolution, Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon, or Grand Blue Fantasy however, I have compiled a list of JRPG’s that I’m mostly anticipating and through my opinion, hopefully you can share or understand the excitement.

Summon Night 6-WUPS

1.Summon Night 6: Lost Borders- 6/23/17 (PS4, PS Vita)

At first glance Summon Night 6: Lost Borders just looks gorgeous. The art style of this JRPG really stands out to capture the attention of gamers, but enough about the looks lets talk about mechanics. Summon Night 6: Lost Borders offers a fully 3-D battle system which allows “Chain Attacks” that happen automatically when surrounding an enemy with two or more party members. In this situation, each party member can attack an enemy without risking a counterattack. With summoning being a hallmark of the franchise, party members can team up for a “Summon Burst” attack that can have a devastating magical strike to take down some of the toughest enemies. The game features dozen of endings, which can have sub-endings that can change depending on a players interaction with other characters. As a thank you to the fans of the series, Summon Night 6: Lost Borders will be fully localized with English voice overs. All key events will the be voiced. As a future new comer to this series, I can’t wait to play this JRPG.

Tokyo Xanadu EX+

2.Tokyo Xanadu, Tokyo Xanadu EX+- 6/30/17 (PS Vita) Late 2017 (PS4, Steam)

Tokyo Xanadu has been out for a long time in Japan and North America will finally be able to get their hands of this stylish dungeon exploring action JRPG, with similar elements from the Persona series of JRPG’s. Tokyo Xanadu will release on the PlayStation Vita on June 30th with Aksys Games doing the English translation and Tokyo Xanadu EX+ for the PS4 and Steam port releasing later this year. Falcom announced the PS4 version (Tokyo Xanadu EX+) will improve on HD graphics and frame rate, with additional story content that will come in the form of extra side story and post-game content. There is still a lot of mystery when it comes to the game for me however, it was developed by Nihon Falcom and having a likeness to the Persona series. My interest for this game is peaking at a all time high.

FF12 ZA

3.Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age- 7/11/17 (PS4)

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age made it to this list just because I didn’t complete this game during the PS2 era. It’s a long story with college friends and roommates. However, with this game making a comeback on the PS4 with great system features like suspend and resume, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, will be completed. One of my favorite things in FFXII is the Gambit system which is one of the most unique AI systems in a Final Fantasy game, due to how deep you can customize each AI action. With modern advancements, including reconstructed battle design and a revamped job system. Fans will be eager to dive back into the world of Ivalice. So who’s going for that platinum trophy?

Ni No Kuni 2

4.Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom- TBA 2017 (PS4)

Last generation, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch in my humble opinion is the best JRPG for the PS3. The story, characters, and battle system was top notch. We also can’t leave out the animated sequences which were crafted by Studio Ghibli, that left you with a high production level feeling as if you were watching an animated movie. I truly adored Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and can’t wait to see how the sequel Ni No Kuni: Revenant Kingdom pans out. There some noticeable changes with the upcoming sequel, like moving away from using and caring for you Familiars. In Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom players will be using the tiny spirit creatures called Higgledies to help you fight and explore within the world of Ni No Kuni. Ys VIII Wups

5.Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana- Fall 2017 (PS4, Windows)

I am super excited to play as Adol once again in a brand new adventure. After being shipwrecked and stranded on a cursed island, Adol begins to have dreams of a mysterious blue-haired maiden. Players must join Adol as he discover the secrets of this island, while learning the back story of the mysterious blue-haired maiden Dana through her unique gameplay sections.

So what do you think? Was any of these games on your radar of JRPG’s for 2107 you wanted to play? If not let me know in the comments your top 5 2017 JRPG’s.

Dragon Quest XI Screenshots Out in the Wild

What’s Up PlayStation Nation,

With Dragon Quest XI having an expected release schedule for 2017 in Japan, here are some screenshots we sought out in the wild for fans of the series to indulge themselves with. Via Dualshockers we learn that the PS4 version will have two modes. A “free motion battle mode”, which will allow players to move freely around the battlefield, giving players an slight advantage for sneak attacks on enemies. “Automatic camera battle mode”, which gives players a more cinematic perspective in battles.

But don’t be alarmed Dragon Quest fans, Dragon Quest XI battle system is still turn based. That’s a sigh of relief.

Persona 5 Standard Edition Comes With A Little Extra

What’s Up PlayStation Nation,

It’s been almost 4 years since we’ve been introduced to the gaming goodness known as Persona 5. The 5th entry into the series has been highly anticipated among JRPG and PlayStation fans alike. Since it’s  2013 TGS reveal fans have been chomping at the bit to get their hands on this anticipated gem. Although our far-eastern PlayStation family have had their hands on the title since September 2016. Atlus seems to be willing to make good on the wait for the western fans by giving us something special even for those of you who haven’t pre-ordered the limited steel book edition and “Take Your Heart” collectors edition. But have no fear Atlus has you covered.  All standard editions will include a limited edition controller sticker. Which I personally think is really cool by the way.

Persona 5lect

This will be included in limited amounts of the standard editions I presume. So make sure to check your local listings to get your hands on one of these limited controller skins as supplies may be limited. I must add these skins look pretty darn sweet. As of now word on if these skins are included in any other editions but this provides a nice little incentive for those who may be feeling left out or were unable to snag a steel book or collectors edition. Atlus has also included a tutorial video for those who may need a little bit of help on applying the skins to your Dual-Shock 4 controllers which you can check out the video below:

Persona 5 is only a few short weeks away and released April 4th. Are you interested in picking up this title? Or does this give you incentive, or motivation to purchase this upcoming game? Comment below and let us know. For this and all things PlayStation make sure to check back with us here at What’s Up PlayStation.

The trailer showcase new characters the Phantom Thieves will encounter during their adventure. Giving the player certain buffs while fighting in dungeons.

  • Shinya Oda – A shooting game fanatic who knowns everything about guns. Even though he’s young, he assists the Phantom Thieves with learning new skills to use in battle
  • Ichiko Ohya – A journalist who enjoys the occasional drink. Additionally, she enjoys writing news about the Phantom Thieves and can give them fame as well as valuable leads.
  • Chihaya Mifune – A fortune-teller who isn’t just trying to take your money. Speaking with her can add buffs to the party that they can take with them into dungeons.
  • Yuuki Mishima – A social media savvy high school student who figures out the identity for the Phantom Thieves. Speaking with him can increase EXP earned in dungeons as well as add buffs to party members.
