What’s Up PlayStation Nation,
In a recent interview with Polygon, in regards to Sony’s newly PlayStation VR. Sony Interactive Entertainment World Studio chairman Shawn Layden revealed “We’re making money on the VR console.” Which is a good sign for VR, as it is looked at as taking a huge risk introducing a new way to play our games.
Normally a newly released console(s) is sold at a loss. With the PSVR being sold at a profit from the start, it can possibly bring much more support such as games or apps for the platform. It’s safe to assume that it looks like PSVR is here to stay and has a bright future ahead. Especially when the PlayStation 4 was announced for being sold at a profit in 2014 from Sony President and CEO Kazuo Hirai.
Here is what he said:
“From a profitability perspective, PS4 is also already contributing profit on a hardware unit basis, establishing a very different business framework from that of previous platform businesses.”
A lot of gamers has a general speculation that PSVR wouldn’t have much support, but with PSVR being profitable from the start hopefully those speculations will be subdued.
