What’s Up PlayStation Nation,
With the recent news swirling around Social Media (Neogaf, Twitter, Facebook, Etc). The response to the (possible) PlayStation 4 Slim model being released, the response (at least from what I’ve experienced) has been mixed. Many are looking at the PS4 Slim with curiosity of what does it’s purpose serve. How much will it cost? Will it support 4K? Is there a need to switch over to the PS4 Slim, in oppose to keeping the regular PS4 that’s available now? Although it has been PlayStation’s worse kept secret 2nd to the PlayStation 4 Neo. Many are clueless to the intention of the PS4’s role to maintain dominance.
Some are concerned with Sony being cocky again as many claimed, they were when the PlayStation 3 was originally revealed. Do you think they will really go back to having such a level of hubris, after being in prior financial limbo over the past few years. With the decline of some premiere Sony branded products losing their flare they once held back in the 80’s to early 2000’s? Cringe worthy statements such as: “I will work more hours to buy one(PS3 consoles).
Either way there is a mixed bag of perspectives on how the PlayStation brand will continue forth. In the eyes of public perception there seems to be an audience of those who feel that Sony is going back to it’s old ways of the Past. While there is also an audience of fans who are still confident in the direction that the PlayStation brand is heading. The question that relates to all are; What direction the PlayStation brand plans to go in? In comparison to the competition the Xbox One to where Microsoft made it clear during E3 2016 that the direction the Xbox brand would be heading in. With the offering of buy a slightly more powerful Xbox One S that does 4k streaming and 4K Blu-Rays that justifies the desire to purchase an Xbox One S No matter how minimal the features and boost on that console. However with the PS4 Slim being leaked and no sense of recognition from Sony in regard to whether the console is real or not. It’s left many to wonder until the September 7th Event.
To add on to more speculation on the direction of PlayStation. As reported via the PlayStation Blog recently there was news of a PlayStation Plus 10 dollar price hike. Which is stated as followed:
Starting on September 22, 2016, prices for PlayStation Plus memberships will change to $59.99 USD/ $69.99 CAD for twelve months and $24.99 USD/$29.99 CAD for three months. My Take on the matter: Personally I’m in neutral standing in regard to the PS4 Slim. Although not visually breathtaking. I do feel if it has some benefits to warrant the purchase of a slim console(4K streaming and Blu-Ray) then that would sweeten up the desire to purchase a slim console. However there are rumors of this soon to be standard PS4 price being lowered to a possible price point of $299.99-$249.99. But as always we’ll have to wait unless this info ends up being leaked. But there needs to be some incentive if they plan on phasing out the current build of the PS4. But with the inclusion of also a PS4 Neo there appears to be also speculation of there being the PS4 for the “standard” user-base and the Neo for the more “high-end” tech driven user-base. Which we will see soon I hope. And Lastly the PlayStation Plus price also needs to be explained how users should be justified in supporting the price hike. Will there be benefits for better PlayStation Plus titles, will we receive more updates besides the usual two big updates we get a year? All these things we have to wait on to “possibly” be answered via the September 7th event.
Do you think there are still things that maybe we will see that hasn’t been leaked yet? What are your thoughts, what do you want to see in the PS4 Slim? Do you think that the PlayStation brand is setting itself up for a popularity plunge with the mixed reception of the PS4 Slim and the PS Plus 10$ price hike? Comment below let us know.
