What Makes Call of Duty Great? (Opinion)

What’s Up PlayStation Nation,

Call of Duty: WWII worldwide reveal takes place on April 26th and there is a lot of excitement or concerns shared among fans with it’s announcement. Within this console generation we’ve had the opportunity to play four Call of Duty games fans generally had mix reactions towards. Call of Duty: Ghosts, Advance Warfare, Black Ops 3, and Infinite Warfare had all received mixed reactions from causal to the hardcore fans and with the exception of Call of Duty: Ghosts most fans have displayed the same outcry, “we want boots on the ground!”.

boots on ground

Today I want to share my opinions on what makes Call of Duty a great shooter. I never felt it was just about having boots on the ground the reason Call of Duty became such a popular franchise. A great Call of Duty game always shared these three elements for making such an addictive game to play.

Blops2 slums

1.Great MapsSlums(Black Ops2), Firing Range(Black Ops), Skidrow(Modern Warfare 2), Pipeline(Modern Warfare), Raid(Black Ops 2), Afghan(Modern Warfare 2), Nuketown(Black Ops) are all great maps I can list just of the top of my head. What made these maps great was the fact it kept to the core map design of a Call of Duty traditional map. By having three lanes- a left, middle, right lanes. Not plastering maps with head glitch spots or having the correct map size for gunfights and respawns. It’s great that certain Call of Duty games will bring back some of these maps in a remastered version in the newer games, but lets not rely on nostalgia for having great maps. I would love Sledgehammer Games to have newly created great maps for players to enjoy.

MW2 Guns

2.Proper Gun Variety/Balance– One of my biggest worries for Call of Duty: WWII is the gun variety and balance. The reason why i’m concerned is due to Call of Duty: Advance Warfare and Sledgehammer Games lack of implementing the two. Everybody that plays Call of Duty has their default gun they use so I understand that, but playing Advance Warfare online most of the community only used on gun, the Bal-27.

Bal 27

Players used that gun not that there weren’t other guns to use, but the Bal-27 just beats out any other gun in the game. Based on my experience when I tried to mix it up using another gun, I calmly or frustratingly switched right back to the Bal-27 to land a good K/D. So if one thing I am really keeping my eye on from Sledgehammer Games is how they plan to balance these guns. With the exception of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, the past Call of Duty games this generation haven’t been doing a good job on the variety aspect for the guns. There’s also no more excitement to level up the other guns or getting any of camo colors for them. Having that balance and variety would be an attempt you bring the joy back of using each individual gun class, with the possibility of encouraging players to go get those camo’s.

Scorestreaks

3.Kill/Scorestreaks that matters– I want to feel that gratification of earning high kill/scorestreaks again. If I earned 10, 13, 19 kills in a row, we should be compensated justly for that. With the recent Call of Duty’s even when you earned a high Kill/scorestreak it can easily be disposed of. Leaving you to ask yourself, why would I select those Kill/Scorestreaks? Most people would bring up the campers situation with this notion, but I would counter with “Call of Duty always and forever have campers”. The last Call of Duty that considerably rewarded players on your kills on the battlefield with great kill/scorestreaks was Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 perfectly implemented scorestreaks that had a balance for what type of Call of Duty player you are. For the beginner/intermediate player that can earn small scorestreaks to help your team with a UAV or earn yourself a extra kill with a Hunter Killer Drone, The experienced player with mid tier scorestreaks like laying down a tactical spot for your Sentry gun or raining hell earning more kills with your Stealth Chopper. Then there are those who are a little more advance earning the high scorestreaks from the orbital VSAT to everyone rage quit scorestreak the Swarm. Let’s have distinguishable Kill/Scorestreaks again!

COD WW@

These are the elements in my opinion will create a great Call of Duty game. It was never just about having your boots to the ground, but having great maps, guns that offer variety, and an Kill/Scorestreaks that can suffice to all different types of players. If Sledgehammer Games can truly conquer those three elements, I personally think they will have a great Call of Duty in there hands, which tons of fans will play for years.

Persona 5 Standard Edition Comes With A Little Extra

What’s Up PlayStation Nation,

It’s been almost 4 years since we’ve been introduced to the gaming goodness known as Persona 5. The 5th entry into the series has been highly anticipated among JRPG and PlayStation fans alike. Since it’s  2013 TGS reveal fans have been chomping at the bit to get their hands on this anticipated gem. Although our far-eastern PlayStation family have had their hands on the title since September 2016. Atlus seems to be willing to make good on the wait for the western fans by giving us something special even for those of you who haven’t pre-ordered the limited steel book edition and “Take Your Heart” collectors edition. But have no fear Atlus has you covered.  All standard editions will include a limited edition controller sticker. Which I personally think is really cool by the way.

Persona 5lect

This will be included in limited amounts of the standard editions I presume. So make sure to check your local listings to get your hands on one of these limited controller skins as supplies may be limited. I must add these skins look pretty darn sweet. As of now word on if these skins are included in any other editions but this provides a nice little incentive for those who may be feeling left out or were unable to snag a steel book or collectors edition. Atlus has also included a tutorial video for those who may need a little bit of help on applying the skins to your Dual-Shock 4 controllers which you can check out the video below:

Persona 5 is only a few short weeks away and released April 4th. Are you interested in picking up this title? Or does this give you incentive, or motivation to purchase this upcoming game? Comment below and let us know. For this and all things PlayStation make sure to check back with us here at What’s Up PlayStation.

What’s up PlayStation Nation!

Horizon Zero Dawn has been a whirlwind of hype, anticipation and overall a grand experience for many of today’s PlayStation gamers. And with today’s news the game has set a new found perspective for new IP’s from Guerilla Games. Horizon zero dawn has caught the eyes of many gamers since it’s debut at  PlayStation’s 2015’s E3 conference. Since that faithful day the wheels of anticipation have been turning and left many gamers salivating for more dino machine goodness. With today’s announcement it’s safe to assume there’s only one direction to go for the Horizon franchise and that my friend is up! Here’s what guerilla games has recently reported via their blog:

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) today announced global sales of Horizon Zero Dawn exceeded 2.6 million units during its two weeks of launch*1. The PlayStation®4 (PS4™) system exclusive, developed by Guerrilla, was released globally beginning February 28 to widespread critical acclaim. Praised for its unique world design, wide array of strategic action and fascinating story line, it instantly became one of the most celebrated games of the current generation.  The impressive launch also makes Horizon Zero Dawn the best-selling new first party IP launch on the PS4 system to date and Guerrilla’s biggest debut ever.

This is definitely a good thing for developers and gamers. Hopefully with titles like these we can continue to see creative boundaries being pushed into a fresh direction for future games to come. Here’s what some of Sony’s top heads have have to say:

We knew Horizon Zero Dawn was going to be something special, so to see the incredible critical reaction to a brand new game world translate into this level of sales is really gratifying,” said Shawn Layden, Chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios. “Guerrilla has created a game that is nothing short of exceptional, and the reaction we have seen from fans – from hours and hours of gameplay streaming to endless photo sharing – shows just how impactful it has been.

Herman Hulst also chimed in as well.

We’re thrilled that Horizon Zero Dawn has been embraced by critics and players alike. Developing the game was a labor of love, so it’s extremely satisfying to see that it elicits the same passion and enthusiasm from the gaming public that we felt during its development,” said Guerrilla Managing Director Hermen Hulst. “This is only the beginning of Aloy’s story and our exploration of the world of Horizon Zero Dawn, with the team already hard at work on an expansion to the story.

It’s no secret that this game has done exceptionally well for a new IP no less. This could be a sign that we will more Aloy in the future. With that being said, are you enjoying Horizon Zero Dawn? Did it exceed or underwhelm your expectations? Comment below let us know for more news and all things PlayStation make sure to check back with us here at What’s Up PlayStation.

New Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Updates Ahead March 17th

What’s up PlayStation Nation.

The Uncharted 4 Multiplayer community is alive and well! With that being said it’s only slated to get better and better. Today via the PlayStation Blog it was announced that a new game mode, vanity items and guns would be added via the multiplayer, to name a few. In regards to major and noticeable changes. These changes are set to hit this weekend which entail the following:

First up, we’re introducing a new permanent game mode: King of the Hill. It tasks two teams with fighting for control of rotating capture points in order to reach the score limit. King of the Hill requires careful coordination and skilled use of Multiplayer’s core combat and movement systems.

However, even if victory seems assured, King of the Hill offers a unique twist — after the score limit has been reached, the losing team has one last chance to make a comeback through what we call the Victory Hill. The leading team must capture the Victory Hill to win, but if the losing team takes it, they get a second chance at glory.

Alongside King of the Hill, we’re also introducing an array of new vanity items and three new weapons: the INSAS and Type-95 long guns, as well as a scoped Competition Pistol.

Fans of The Last of Us may recognize our new Savage Starlight character skins. Inspired by the in-game comics strewn across the world of The Last of Us, you can now customize select characters in Uncharted 4 Multiplayer with Savage Starlight outfits.

Uncharted players are you ready to jump back among thieves and fight it out? What are you looking for as far as big MP changes? What changes would you like to see implemented for the Uncharted 4 Multiplayer? Comment below let us know and for more news check back with us here at Whats Up PlayStation.
